Host Heidelberg Academy junior varsity and varsity girls won the first games in a four-team tournament which began Monday.

The JV girls beat Russell Academy 49-0 to begin the tournament. Jade Clark scored 14 points for Heidelberg, followed by Emily Tuminello with 7 and Lauren Brashier and Ashton Dixon with 6 each.

The varsity girls beat Russell 45-21. Cynthia Barnett led Heidelberg with 12 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Morgan Lee, 9 points and 7 rebounds; Kirsten Prunera, 8 points and 9 steals; Ashley Reeves, 7 points and 8 steals; and Rebekah Chancellor, 7 points and 5 rebounds. Ninth grader Hope Beard played the final minute and a half of the game and scored 2 points.

In other games, Wayne Academy JV beat Sylva Bay 35-21 and Wayne Academy’s varsity girls beat Sylva Bay 44-31.

Heidelberg and Sylva Bay JV teams play Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 4:45. Wayne and Russell’s JV teams play at 5:15 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. Games will also be played on Thursday and Saturday.
