History was made in the town of Waynesboro Friday night at War Eagle Stadium. It was the debut of the new field turf at Wayne County High School, as well as the 100th coaching victory for War Eagle head coach Marcus Boyles at Wayne County.

The War Eagles were able to pull away with the win late for Boyles, as they beat the George County Rebels 35-21.

"I wouldn’t have been able to get that 100th win without the players who have played under me," Boyles said. "It’s all about the kids, and that's what matters the most.”

George County silenced the home crowd with 6:01 left in the opening quarter as Adrain Bradley ran the ball from 47 yards out to score. Forrest Proctors' point after attempt was good, and the Rebels led 7-0.

After a George County fumble at its own 47, DeMarcus Henderson passed the ball to Malik Loftin from 16 yards out for the first War Eagle score of the night. Garret Reynolds’ extra point was good, and the game was tied at 7.

After the Rebels fumbled the ensuing kickoff on their own 31, Shon Rankin picked up a fumble and took it the other way for the score. Reynolds added the extra point, and the War Eagles were ahead at 14-7 with 8:23 left before half.

After holding George County to three and out, the War Eagles drove the ball down to the Rebel 19-yardline. Henderson added the third War Eagle touchdown of the night as he scrambled from 19 yards out. Reynolds added the extra point, and the War Eagles led 21-7 at the half.

Boyles felt that his team did some good things and bad things. "We did some good things and bad things," Boyles said. "We just have to fix the offensive problems."

With 10:17 left in the third quarter, Henderson hit Loftin once again down the sideline from 56 yards out. Reynolds’ extra point was good, and Wayne County led 28-7. With 6:41 left in the game, Jordan Fallon connected with Colby Parker in the corner of the end zone for the Rebel score. Proctor added the extra kick, and the Rebels trailed 28-14.

After George County recovered an onside kick, the Rebels marched down the field to the 4-yardline. R.J. Spivey then scored from 4 yards out on a naked bootleg. Proctor added the extra point, and the Rebels trailed 28-21. With 49 seconds left in the game, Dewayne Davis sealed the 100th win for Boyles from 4 yards out. Reynolds extra point was good, giving Wayne County its victory. Boyles has an all-time record of 100-13 as the Wayne County head coach.

The War Eagles have next week off, and their next game won't be until Sept. 25 when they travel down to Stone County.

Wayne County improves to 3-1, while George County falls to 2-2.
