Golden Eagles complete first week of Fall Camp
The Southern Miss football team had a spirited two-and-a-half hour workout Friday afternoon at the Joe P. Park practice facility.
The Golden Eagles worked out for 22 periods in helmets and shoulder pads in more manageable weather conditions after Thursday’s practice in the heavy rain.
“Today was another good practice,” first year head coach Larry Fedora said. “We are trying to get better each day and I feel like we got better today.”
Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium was the site for the first full scrimmage of the 2008 fall camp, which was held Saturday evening. The scrimmage was be closed to the public.
“Tomorrow’s scrimmage will help us evaluate our players even more,” Fedora added, referring to the Saturday event. “Every rep is evaluated and helps us to put the best 11 football players on the field.”
Following Saturday's scrimmage, the Golden Eagles will take Sunday off before returning to the practice field on Monday, August 10. Sunday will be the first off day for the team since fall camp began on August 1.
The Golden Eagles are working hard from the coaching staff down to all the players to ready themselves for the first regular season opener. This may well be one of the most anticipated events at the University of Southern Mississippi within recent memory.
Coach Larry Fedora will be opening the season at home, on the field of a recently renovated stadium on display to the public for the first time. Ticket sales are brisk, but for tickets, contact the University.
The season opener will be Saturday August 30 against the University of Louisiana, Lafayette.
