ELLISVILLE -- The Ellisville 9-year-old All-Stars, host team of the Merchant Park Dixie Youth All-Star Sub-District Tournament, are tournament champions, even though the championship game was scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
In the only game of the night on Tuesday, the Magee All-Stars beat the Laurel Americans 11-1 after the game was cut short in the fourth inning due to the 10-run rule.
However, following the game, Magee forfeited the championship game to Ellisville, and Ellisville was declared tournament champion.
Ellisville beat Magee 11-1 on the first night of the tournament.
“I don’t know the reason behind the forfeit,” said Shane Ladner, league president. “All I know is that Magee forfeited to Ellisville, and the Ellisville All-Stars are the tournament champions.”
By virtue of the forfeit, Magee placed second and the Laurel Americans placed third.
Magee had a 5-0 lead on Laurel after the first inning of Tuesday’s game. Laurel scored one run in the second inning after a bad throw to first allowed Laurel’s Conner Hicks to score.
Magee added another run in the second inning, three in the third and two in the final inning before the game was halted.
All teams who played in the tournament will play in the District tournament which begins Friday in Taylorsville. The first game will feature the Laurel Nationals and Ellisville.
