Area archers win at State Games

Jones County area archers brought home 15 medals from the State Games of Mississippi Archery competition. The event, held at Bonita Lakes in Meridian, was one of the 29 sports in the 18th annual State Games of Mississippi.
John Haas of Seminary scored the silver medal in the 3D Open Seniors Division, while John Pitts of Seminary brought home the gold in the Field Registration Men's Open Division and the silver in 3D Registration Men's Open with Shootout Division.
Ellisville archers Malcolm Rowzee, Austin Rowzee and Jordan Sanford scored big in the competition. Malcom Rowzee took the bronze in the Men's Bow Hunter Division, while brother Austin Rowzee scored a bronze in the Young Adult Aide Division, a gold in the 3D Youth Aided Male 12-14 age group and a silver in the Field Youth Aided Male 12-14 Division. Sanford won a gold medal in the Field Youth Aided Male 12-14 age group and bronze in the 3D Youth Aided Male 12-14 Division. 
Laurel archers brought home four medals. Nathan Hathon won the gold in the 3D Young Adult Aided Division and a silver in the Field Young Adult Aided category. Drew Barefoot earned a silver in the Young Adult Bow Hunter Division and a bronze in the 3D Youth Aided Male 12-14 year-old group.
Madison Watts of Soso took the gold in both the 3D Young Adult Aided Female Division and the Field Young Adult Aided Female Division. 
The State Games of Mississippi is a statewide amateur sportsfest patterned after the Olympics for athletes of all ages and abilities. More than 5,000 athletes competed in the games on June 6-7, June 12-14, June 21-22 and June 25-28.
