Laurel in Dixie Youth semi-finals

ELLISVILLE -- The 9-year-old Ellisville Dixie Youth All-Stars defeated the Laurel-Jones County American All-Stars here Monday night 15-10, dealing Laurel its first loss of the Merchant Park Dixie Youth Sub-District Tournament.

Laurel is still in contention for the Wednesday night championship game against Ellisville, but will have to beat Magee in a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, the only game of the night.

A. J. Carmichael put the Laurel-Jones County Americans out ahead of Ellsiville in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single that went up the middle to centerfield that scored Alex Harrison to put Laurel up 1-0. 

The Americans didn't let up after holding Ellisville scoreless. Laurel's Conner Hicks doubled up the middle to score Peyton Brown. Haden Boyd doubled to clear the bases, scoring Warren Anderson,  Hicks and Hunter McLaurin to give the Americans a 5-0 lead to finish off the second inning. 

Ellisville finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning and never looked back. Dylan Ladnerstole home on a wild pitch. Tanner Wells doubled to left field to score Kameron Flowers. Jacob Dean then stole home after an American infield error. Cody Ellzey followed with a double to score Wells. 

Zachary Jackson singled to score Ellzey and John David Morton. Jackson stole home after advancing to third base on wild pitches. McCoy Walters tripled to score Bryson Sumrall. Brady Blackwell finished off the scoring for Ellisville in the fifth inning with a single to left field, as Ellisville scored 9 runs to go on top of the Americans. 

After holding Laurel scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, Ellisville took up where they left off. Nick Clark stole home to start off the inning. Morton followed with an RBI to drive in Wells. Jackson then doubled to score Ellzey, Walters single to right field scored Jackson, and Brady Blackwell's triple scored Sumrall and Walters to put Ellisville on top 15-5. 

Laurel didn't go away quietly as Peyton Brown’s double scored Johnathon Blackledge and Cameron James. Boyd followed with a triple to score Brown and Hunter McLaurin. Caleb Holland finished the scoring for Laurel scoring Boyd with a single to left field,, but that wasn't enough as Ellisville won the game 15-10. 

In the early game of the night, Magee whipped Wayne County 11-3. Logan LeRay was the first to score for Wayne County in the top of the first inning when he stole home after reaching on a walk. Cole Ezell then earned an RBI by knocking in Ethan Boykin, as Wayne County held their only lead of the game at 2-0. 

Andrew Frierson stole home to start off the scoring for Magee. Bryson Mills hit an inside the park home run bringing in Jordan Willis. Josh Newsome followed up with a single up the middle to knock in Sam Williams, and Magee took the advantage at 4-2. 

Tucker Sabezak earned 2 RBI's in the bottom half of the third inning on a fielder’s choice by the Wayne County infield, scoring Jordan Willis and and Mills. After a wild pitch, Sabezak stole home. Newsome then added another single to his credit to bring in Williams, as Magee widened the gap at 8-2. 

Jaden Chatman stole home in the bottom of the fourth inning, followed by a second inside the park homerun by Mills, as Magee went up 10-2. In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Newsome doubled to center field to score Williams, as the lead increased to 11-2. Wayne County added a run in the final inning as Zachary Loper Stole home.
