Cole Walters a high school senior at Stringer was recently selected as a recipient of a 2008 Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. Scholarship.
The $1,250 award will help defray some of the initial cost of attending school. Walters plans to attend the University of Mississippi in Oxford (Ole Miss) in the fall of 2008.
Dixie Boys Scholarship program was established in 1987 and to date over a 1/2 million dollars has been awarded. Each year winners are selected from an eleven state region that has participants in the Dixie Baseball organization. The scholarship application emphasizes the criteria of good citizenship (school and community) and scholastic achievement. The only stipulation in the application is that the student has participated in the Dixie Boys, Inc. program at some time in the past.
Commissioner/CEO, J. Sandy Jones commented, “Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. is extremely pleased that we can award scholarships totaling $15,000 each year. We wish these very deserving seniors the very best in their academic pursuits.”
L.V. Walters serves Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. as the Scholarship Committee Chair for the State of Mississippi.
