Season over for 'Stangs
West Jones falls in South State series to red-hot East Central

By Rob Winpigler, Leader-Call correspondent

West Jones’ 2008 baseball season came to an end here Friday night at Mustang Field as East Central captured the 4-A South State Championship, 13-4.

The Hornets swept the best 2-of-3 series, capturing Game 1 Thursday night in Hurley, 10-0.

The Mustangs ended the season with a 26-6 record.

East Central, now 29-5, will advance to the state championship at Trustmark Park in Brandon. First game of the best 2-of-3 series against the North State Champion is set for Thursday at 7 p.m.

After a 2-2 tie in the first inning, East Central scored in every inning except for the third, while West Jones could muster only two more runs in the fourth.

Trace Hill led the Mustangs at the plate with a 2-run homer and single. Garrett Moore was tagged with the loss, while Devin Huff and Ty Pulliam also pitched.
