Gold Rush, cheerleader tryouts set for JCJC
ELLISVILLE – Tryouts for the Jones County Junior College basketball dance team – Gold Rush – will be held at the P.E. Building on campus on April 9-10.
Those wishing to try-out will attend a workshop to learn the routine at 1 p.m. on April 9. The actual tryouts will take place at 1 p.m. on April 10. No pre-registration is required. Gold Rush will perform at home basketball games in the 2008-09 season.
Cheerleader tryouts for the JCJC co-ed and all-girl squads will be held April 3 in the P.E. Building.

JCJC to hold baseball tryouts
ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College will be holding baseball tryouts on Tuesday, May 6, at the baseball field on campus.
Tryouts will begin at 2 p.m. and last approximately two hours. In the event of rain, tryouts will be rescheduled at a later date.
Anyone who cannot attend this tryout, but is interested in playing baseball at Jones, should call the baseball office at 601-477-4088 to set up another tryout date. There will be another tryout scheduled later in May.

JCJC Alumni Golf Tourney set for March 28
The ninth annual Jones County Junior College Alumni Association Golf Tournament will be held Friday, March 28, at Laurel Country Club.
The tournament is a 3-man select shot event with a $75 per player entry fee. Corporate and social sponsorships are also available.
Registration and breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m. with a tee time of 8:45 a.m. Food and drinks will be available on the course. Flight and door prizes will be awarded.

Tennis Pro at Laurel Country Club is offering lessons
Boys and girls between the ages of 4 to 13 are learning the fundamentalsm of tennis through an after school program introduced at Nora Davis Elementary School. The clinic is held for the next three Monday nights: Monday 3/24th, Monday 3/31st, and Monday 4/7th from 6:30p.m. -7:30p.m. The fee for the clinic is $2.00 per session per kid. “Guided Ladies” Turkey Hunt
The local chapter of The Women in the Outdoors, “Outdoor Divas” will host a guided ladies turkey hunt on April 12th in Smith County. We will meet at Bay Springs City Park on April 6th at 2 p.m. to discuss details of this event. Adalius Thomas Football Camp set
The Adalius Thomas Football Camp will be held Saturday, April 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. The camp is free and is open to boys ages 9-17. All campers are required to have a signed parental release form before participating in any camp activities. All campers receive a camp t-shirt, lunch, autographed picture, goodie bag from sponsors and instructions from the New England Patriots defensive lineman and Southern Miss alum, as well as USM football players, coaches and NFL players. Jones County Alumni Tournament
The first Jones County High School Alumni Baseball Tournament is being planned for late April or early May. If you are a baseball player and a graduate of Laurel, Northeast Jones, South Jones or West Jones and would like to represent your high school in this fund raising event, please contact Rob Winpigler at 601-428-5927.

Big Pine Classic
The 7th Annual Williams Big Pine Classic Golf Tournament to benefit Red Cross & United Way on Thursday April 3rd at the Laurel Country Club. Please come out and join us. We'll serve breakfast at 7:30 and lunch when they finish play, about 12-1. Golfers start at 9. We do have a $10,000 Hole In One this year as well.
Looks like a banner year for golfers and for sponsorship. We'll also have a silent auction.

Nutt to make first area visit
New Ole Miss head football coach Houston Nutt will be the guest speaker at the tenth annual Wayne County Rebel meeting on Thursday, April 17, at the Waynesboro City Auditorium.
Due to limited seating tickets need to purchased as quickly as possible. WC Rebel Club members may purchase tickets for $15 while non-member tickets are $20. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. with a meal following.
There will be door prizes and a raffle of various Ole Miss souvenirs.

Sertoma T-Ball announces May 10 registration
Sertoma T-Ball program, Laurel’s oldest and largest program of the sort, will begin its 2008 season with registration on May 10 at 9 a.m.
Registration will be held at the Magnolia Center at the Laurel Fairgrounds.
Fee is $35 per child, and the league is open to boys and girls ages 3-7.
No prior coach pitch or farm league players are eligible to register.
All games will be played in the air conditioned comfort of the Magnolia Center, for convenience and to eliminate rainouts.
The program has been in operation for nearly thirty years and usually has around 400 children involved. Last year there were 343 tee ball players in the league.
The season will last from the first week in June to approximately the first week in July, depending on the number of players and teams.
