Heidelberg Academy defeats Russell Academy for ninth win
Heidelberg Academy beat Russell Academy 11-4 Tuesday night to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Blake Denham stayed perfect on the mound, winning his fourth. Russell’s Joey Lawn got the loss.
The entire Rebel lineup contributed offensively Tuesday, led by Jamie Keenan, Derek Beech and Blake Hitt, who all had doubles.
Andrew Jones hit three singles while Colby Reeves, Joseph Collins, Blake Denham and Colby Smith all singled.
Heideleberg will host Newton Academy Thursday night at 7 p.m.
Wayne County’s McIlwain almost hurls a no-no
MARION — Wayne County pitcher Blake McIlwain had a no-hitter for 6.2 innings here Tuesday night before the Trojans broke their hitting silence. Even though McIlwain was not in the game when it ended his efforts led the War Eagles to a 3-2 win. It improves Wayne to 6-1 in league play and 15-2 overall. NE Lauderdale drops to 0-5 as the teams will meet in Waynesboro on Thursday night.
Wayne County scored twice in the first inning on a couple of key bunts and then added a single run in the fifth inning. NEL scored twice in the seventh inning.
Brandon Sullivan led the winners with two hits while Cody Stephens, Josh Palmer, and Demarkus Henderson had hits for the winners. Justin Overstreet recorded the save for the War Eagles.
South Jones wins tenth at Clarkdale 12-7
CLARKDALE – The South Jones Braves whipped Clarkdale here Tuesday night 12-7 in a non-district baseball contest.
The Braves are now 10-4 overall and will not play until next Tuesday night at Northeast Jones.
South Jones scored twice in the first inning, once in the second inning, and then tallied three times in the fifth inning, twice in the sixth inning, and four times in the final frame.
Clarkdale scored once in the second, four times in the fourth frame, and twice in the fifth inning.
