ELLISVILLE — Jones Junior College first-year soccer coach Oleg Baleyev watched one of his Bobcat teams play great.

Then he watched the other team play not so great.

But the results were the same for the teams, as the Lady Bobcats took a 7-0 win over Southwest Community College and the Bobcats took a 2-1 win over the Bears.

JCJC 2, SWCC 1

Despite the tight score, the JCJC guys dominated the game, taking 35 shots on goal to Southwest’s seven.

“I told the guys I was very disappointed,” Baleyev said. “But I will take an ugly win.”

The Bobcats kept on blasting at the Southwest goal, but the shots were either right at the keeper or way off the mark. The Bears, 0-3, who had only two shots on goal in the first half, scored their only goal in the 44th minute as Freddy Vera scored on a penalty kick after he was taken down in the box.

In the second half, JCJC, 1-1-2, tied the score as Charlie Mullen took advantage of a SWCC foul and scored on a direct kick in the 48th minute.

In the 81st minute, JCJC finally got on top via a corner kick, as Zack Mills started it off, then the ball was slightly deflected by Brett Barlow and Myles Hill put the ball in the net.

Lady Bobcats 7, Lady Bears 0

Not only did the Lady Bobcats get their first win, they got their first points of the regulars season.

And this happened in a big way, as JCJC took 53 shots on goal to SWCC’s three and scored seven goals.

“That was a good mental game to have seven goals, especially after the 4-0 loss to Meridian,” Baleyev said. “It was also good for us going into the Pearl River Game Saturday.”
