Smiths to perform in Moselle
By Jason Niblett, newseditor@laurelleadercall.com
A Jones County native who has “made it big” in the world of Christian music will return for a free concert here.
Reggie Smith and his wife Ladye Love Smith will perform at Moselle Memorial Baptist Church Sunday. The 8:15 a.m. service will be more of a contemporary praise and worship service while the 10:30 a.m. will feature more of the tradition hymn style of music.
Moselle Memorial Baptist Church is Reggie Smith’s home church. His father was the minister of music there for years. Ladye Love Smith is from Iuka. The pair met while they were students at the University of Mississippi and began their career in music.
Their list of accomplishments is long, including a song on the soundtrack for Disney’s “The Lion King,” and performances with Christian artists Larnelle Harris and Sandy Pattie. They have also performed during Dr. Billy Graham crusades. Actually, they just completed a list of songs to be included in the new movie featuring Graham. They also appear in the movie.
“That was a lot of fun,” Reggie Smith told the Leader-Call.
The Smiths also spent 12 years traveling with the Gather Homecoming group, appearing live and in 75-80 videos.
Reggie Smith said he is excited to be able to return to Jones County this weekend.
“It’s always good to come back here and eat some of mama’s peas and cornbread,” he said.
His parents, R. V. and Linda Smith, live in the Moselle area.
Ladye Love Smith also said she’s glad to be able to be back in her husband’s hometown.
“We’re excited to come back here and see everyone,” she said.
