Skipping helps reading readiness

Photo/Submitted

The new Kindergarten year is well underway at East Jones Elementary. With so much emphasis placed on fitness, teachers have incorporated another new activity into our busy lives. We received the DVD called You've Gotta Move which was offered from the Mississippi State Department of Education as a way to exercise within each classroom. Along with this, we practice "skipping" each day. Research has shown that reading readiness/ability goes hand-in-hand with a child being able to skip. Pictured is the kindergarten class of Susan Ritchey and Becky Pitts.
