South Jones High School recently announced its Hall of Fame members.
Named to the Hall of Fame is Alyece Willoughby, Haden Cox, Jesse McCraw, Melody Myrick, Natalie Flynt, Koby Easterling, Shannon West, Olivia Pitts, Madisson Black, Brad Davis, John Ridgeway and Zachary Crosby.
Alyece Willoughby is this years Valedictorian at South Jones High School. She is the daughter of Ed and Alice Willoughby. In school Willoughby participated in many fine arts groups, such as the award winning high school show choir “Company” and numerous clubs including, Beta Club secretary, Student Council president, Key Club vice president, and First Priority. Out of school, Willoughby is an active member of the youth group at Shelton Baptist Church and is a tutor. She was selected as Youth of the Month in 2007 and 2008 by the Sertoma Club and Laurel Exchange Club. She also received the National Leadership Merit by the United States Achievement Academy. She hopes to continue her education at Jones County Junior College and William Carey University.
Haden Cox is the son of Jay and Becky Cox of Ellisville. He is in the Honors Program and a member of Who’s Who. He has been a member of the South Jones Braves Varsity football team for three years and a member of the varsity baseball team for three year as well. Cox received the Tim Allen Award and Weight Room Warrior Award for football. He plans to attend Jones County Junior College.
Jesse McCraw is the daughter of Bill and Missy Sanderson. She was elected Miss South Jones, and was also Jones County’s Junior Miss 2008. She is an active member of South Jones Company show choir, president of the Spanish Club, and Captain of the Lady Braves Varsity Soccer Team. She plans to attend Mississippi State University in the fall and major in political science.
Melody Myrick is the daughter of T.C. and Laurie Myrick of Laurel. She is has participated in the Beta Club, Key Club, HOSA, and the Technical Honor Society. She has volunteered numerous hours in her community including helping the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina. She has participated in the South Jones show choir for three years. She has been nominated for the United State Achievement Academy and Who’s Who Among American High School Students.She plans to attend Jones County Junior College and major in business. She then plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi and major in banking and finance.
Natalie Flynt is the daughter of Scott and Sandi Flynt. She is involved in Beta Club and Beta council member, Student Council, and Key Club. She served as vice president in 2007 and president in 2008. She competed in the talent show at the 2008 State Beta Convention, and was selected in the top eight for finals. She was elected Student Body Maid in 2008, Who’s Who-Most Talented, and Exchange Club Student of the Month. She has been a varsity cheerleader, participated in the South Jones show choir, Company and received the All-American Cheerleader nominee five years and was selected as All-American in 2005. In show choir she received the following awards, Most Oustanding Freshman, Best Female Soloist, Best Soprano, and won three Middle School Solo Competitions and selected to the future Leader of Jones County in 2007. She plans to attend Jones County Junior College and Mississippi State University and major in business.
Jakob Peyton Easterling is the son of Jack and Tammy Easterling of the Union community. While at South Jones, Easterling was president of First Priority and FCA. He also played the drums for the South Jones Band of Braves, and played football and was a member of the golf team. He plans to attend Jones County Junior College and preach the Gospel of Christ.
Shannon West is the daughter of Gary and Sharon West of Ovett. She is an active member of County Line Baptist Church, church choir and Bible Drills. During school, West was a council member of the Beta Club and secretary of the Student Council. She is a member of TGIF, Key Club, TSA and Spanish Club. She has volunteered more than 100 hours and selected as Sertoma Student of the Month her junior year. West was voted a class favorite for the past three years, Most Oustanding in her senior class, and placed in the top 10 in the beauty pageant. She plans to attend Jones County Junior College in the fall.
Olivia Pitts is the daughter of Chris and Becky Zumwalt and Thomas and Charlotte Pitts. She has participated in the South Jones show choir, Company, for three years. She has also been a varsity cheerleader, and on the swim team where she competed in the State Championship. She is Beta Club president and Student Council vice president. She will graduate with highest honors with a 4.08 GPA. Among her many awards are the HOBY Leadership Award, Who’s Who Among American Students, All American Scholar Award, USAA National Leadership Merit Award, Who’s Who in English and the Hall of Fame.
Madisson Black is the daughter of Neil and Sherri Black of the Sweetwater Community. She has played for piano for 14 years and has participate in the South Jones Varsity Band of Braves as well as the Show Choir Band. While in school, Black was a member of the Beta Club, Student Council, Key Club, Spanish Club, and TGIF. She has volunteered more than 100 hours in her community through various organizations. She has been selected for the United State Achievement Academy and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She was voted Best Dressed for Senior Superlatives, Homecoming maid her junior year and was selected as a Laurel Exchange Club Student of the Month. She plans to attend William Carey University in the fall and major in English.
Bradley Jacob Davis is the son of Joseph and Melissa Davis of the Johnson community. He is president of the senior class and the Technology Student Association. He plans to attend Mississippi State University and major in aerospace engineering.
John Ridgeway is the son of J.W. and Dora Ridgeway of the Currie community. He is a member of TGIF, TSA, Beta Club, Student Council and Show Choir Crew. He was a 2007 Future Leaders graduate, voted Mr. South Jones and voted Friendliest by the senior class. In the fall he plans to attend the University of Mississippi and major in business.
Zachary Adam Crosby was chosen as Salutatorian at South Jones High School. He is the son of Edward and Jo Anna Crosby of Moselle. During his senior year, Crosby received the Spirit of Teens Getting Involved for the Future, TGIF, was named STAR Student and will be graduating with highest honors. He plans to continue his education at Jones County Junior College and Mississippi State University pursuing a degree in civil engineering.
