To the editor:
I am so sick of hearing our state representatives talk about tobacco tax in order to fix the Medicaid funding issue. If this tobacco tax was so great and wonderful, why didn't it get passed during regular session?
Everyone has been made aware that the govenor always controls what is allowed to be brought up during any special session. This has been the law for years; it is not new. Therefore, why do members of our House of Representatives still harp on tabacco tax to "fix" the funding shortfall in the Medicaid system? They have complained enough.
If (House Speaker Billy) McCoy is part of the problem, the the House as a governing body can do something about McCoy. Otherwise, it looks like the people our representatives have sworn to represent will be the ones that will hurt the most.
All members of our Legislature need to forget tobacco tax and get down to the problem at hand that has been placed on the table; so what if you do not like the governor, you could have handled this matter during regular session when you were in control.
