Walter Edward Blackledge
Walter Edward Blackledge, 88, of Huntsville, Ala., died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Huntsville Hospital.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Whitesburg Baptist Church, South Campus Chapel from 10 a.m. until the start of the funeral at 11 a.m. with Dr. Jimmy Jackson officiating. A graveside service will be Thursday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Laurel.
He was a loving husband and father and a faithful member of Whitesburg Baptist Church for 47 years. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and retired after 38 years as an engineer at the Army Missile Command. As an avid gardener, he delighted in growing orchids and was a member of the American Orchid Society and was the family’ genealogist. He grew up in the Thompson Creek Community in Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Cora Blackledge; his son Russell Blackledge; and brother, Patrick Blackledge.
He is survived by five daughters, Janice Wilkerson, Freda Morse Blackledge, Judy Murrie, Nancy Blackledge and Lynn Bates; one brother, Paul Blackledge; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Twickenham Funeral Home South in Huntsville, Ala., is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Whitesburg Baptist Church or your favorite charity.

Frances Allene Brown Green
Frances Allene Brown Green, 65, of Montgomery, Ala., died Friday, Oct.10, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. David Leopard will officiate.
She was born Sept.17, 1943, in Rison, Ark. to Chester Brown and Leona Hall Brown Howerton.
She was reared and received her early education in Rison, Pine Bluff and Milton, Florida, where she graduated from Santa Rosa Adult Institute. She also attended Dyersburg State Junior College in Dyersburg, Tenn.
She worked as a bookkeeper, retiring from Molloy-Seidenburg C.P.A., in Laurel.
She was a Baptist and a member of A.A.R.P.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Leon C. Green, who she married Feb. 27, 1960; two sons, Steven Green of Brookhaven; Raymond Green of Florence, one daughter, Deborah Dean of Montgomery, Ala., one sister, Emma Jo Nelson of Mabelvale, and nine grandchildren.

Maxine Cooley Jenkins, 65, of Heidelberg, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Heidelberg with burial in Ebenezer Garden of Memories Cemetery. Rev. H.C. Hick will officiate.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church; Brown Mortuary, Inc., is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Magee, 63, of Hattiesburg, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Forrest General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at New Bethel Baptist Church in Hattiesburg.
Visitation will be held form 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at New Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be at Old Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery in Hebron.

Shirley Christine Montgomery, 70, of Laurel, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Laurelwood Community Living Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Union Line Cemetery.

Glendon Cleo Pierce, 87, of the Sweetwater Community, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at the VA Nursing Center in Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Fairfield Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Seminary.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. this evening at Jones & Son Funeral Home in Moselle, which is in charge of the arrangements.

C. A. Pittman, 80, of Mize, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Dry Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Mize. Burial will be in Dry Ridge Church Cemetery in Mize.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home in Taylorsville.

James Earl Robinson
James Earl Robinson, 67, of Laurel, died on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel. Burial will be in Lake Park Hills Cemetery in Laurel. Revs. Henry Freeman and Tommy Brill will officiate.
Mr. Robinson was a salesman for Frito-Lay for 38 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the country cooks. He was an avid gofer and was a charter member and served on the board of Dixie Golf Club in Laurel. He was a longtime high school football official. His favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren play sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Sadie Mae Robinson, and a brother, Billy J. Robinson.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Robinson of Laurel; son and daughter-in-law, Jamie and Stephanie Robinson of Laurel; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Tim Freeman of Laurel; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alton and Nancy Robinson, and Butch Robinson, all of Laurel; three sisters, Betty J. Lyon of Laurel, Norma K. Sykes of Brandon, and Lavera Strickland of Laurel; four grandchildren, Brent Freeman. Brody Freeman, Parker Robinson and Madalyn Robinson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bob Armstrong, Dale Jay, Billy Butler, Duane Mitchell, David Hinton, Roger Walters, and Fred Holmes.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, which is in charge of the arrangements.
