Janice Holsinger Blackledge
Janice Holsinger Blackledge, 57, of Louin, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Memory Chapel with burial to follow in Palestine Cemetery in Jasper County.
Mrs. Blackledge was born to Edgar and Rosemary Holsinger in Celna, Ohio, on April 4, 1950. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own children. She enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing and was a wonderful cook. Janice worked at Lazy Boy for more than 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Rosemary (Cotterman) Holsinger; brother, Edgar Holsinger; adopted sister, Shelly Slone; nieces, nephews, and one great-niece.
Survivors include her husband, G. W. Blackledge of Louin; brothers, John (Theresa) Holsinger of St. Marys, Ohio and Rick (Kay) Holsinger of Meridian; sisters, Roxy (Dick) Wagner and Ginger (Jack) Figel of Ocala,
Fla., Candy Grilliot of Mustang, Okla., Brenda (Andy) Fishbach of Sidney, Ohio, Jodie (John) Ball and Marcia (Tony) Taylor of St Marys, Ohio, Sarah (Doug) Eckstein of Mechanicburg, Ohio; sisters-in-laws, Joy Holsinger of Ogden, Utah, Cindy Blackledge of Louin; brother-in-law, Paul (Edith) Blackledge of Louin; 56 nieces and nephews and 89 great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Junior Shedd, Eli Holsinger, Matthew Blackledge, Christie Blackledge, Beverly Blackledge, Wayne Carey, James Jones and Kenny Smith.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memory Chapel, which is in charge of services.

Bernard F. Duffy Jr.
Bernard F. Duffy Jr., 77, of Laurel, died Sunday, March 16, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Memory Chapel with burial to follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. The Rev. David Slaughter will officiate.
Mr. Duffy was retired from Carter/Well’s Drug store after more than 30 years of delivering medicine to the citizens of Laurel. He was a member of Franklin United Methodist Church where he was a member of United Methodist Men and the ESP group. He also attended the former Justice Heights United Methodist Church where he was on numerous boards, sang in the choir, served as president and cook of United Methodist Men, and taught Sunday School. Mr. Duffy’s favorite pastime was viewing local baseball and football events. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard F. Duffy Sr. and Gertrude Duffy.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Frances M. Duffy of Laurel; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Audra Duffy of Laurel; twin daughters and sons-in law, Debbie and James Buckhaults of Ellisville and Jan and Mike Ruffin of Laurel: one sister, Mary and Angelo Licata of Ft. Pierce, Fla. His pride and joy were his five grandchildren: Corey Ruffin, Katelyn Duffy, Taylor Duffy, Jacob Bauer, and Maggie Bauer.
Pallbearers will be Frank Moody, Casey Moody, Wesley Hughes, Donald Rogers, Josh Norcross, Glen Ainsworth, and Thomas Ainsworth. Honorary pallbearers will be the United Methodist Men’s Club and Franklin United Methodist Church, Harry Wells and Jeffrey Bailey.
Memorials may be made to Franklin United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. this evening at Memory Chapel, which is in charge of services.

Helen Murphy
Helen Murphy, 74, of Moselle, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Wesley Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank P. Murphy; parents, Malphard Matt Weems, Sr. and Mary Colenia Walden Weems; and three brothers, Malphard Matt Weems, Jr., Mickey Weems and Billy Weems.
She is survived by four sisters, Evelyn Hinton of Soso, Lavern Daniels of Laurel, Jean Weems of Batavia, III., Nancy Michalek of Coco, Fla.; two brothers, Ronnie Weems of Laurel and Dale Weems of Los Angeles, Calif.; special friend and companion, Bernard Berry.
Jones & Son Funeral Home in Moselle was in charge of arrangements.

Otho Lee Pittman Jr.
Otho Lee Pittman Jr., 78, of Collins, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins.
Memorial service arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. Pittman was retired from the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otho Lee Pittman; mother, Mary Ethel Culpepper Pittman; wife, Emma Pittman; brothers, Jack Pittman and Bill Pittman; and sisters, Anne Davis Moss and Loleen Cook.
Survivors include his son, James Pittman of Bay Springs; daughter, Iris Evans of Louin; sisters, Bernice Parker of Stringer, Peggy Stephenson of Heidelberg, and Erin Thigpen of Biloxi; and six grandchildren.

Elizabeth “Betty” Stone
Elizabeth “Betty” Stone, 93, of Bay St. Louis, formerly of Laurel, died Saturday, March 15, at the Dunbar Village nursing facility in Bay St. Louis.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Laurel with burial in Lake Park Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the Parish Hall at St. John's Episcopal Church.
Betty was a long time member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was active in the choir, altar guild, and Episcopal Church Women. She also served as a docent at Lauren Rogers Museum. Betty was a friend to many with a ready smile and a pleasant outlook. She will be truly missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wendell “Rip” Stone and her brother John Runkle Sr.
Survivors include a son, Randy Stone of Hillsboro, Ore.; a daughter, Jennifer Ewing of Diamondhead; three grandchildren, Scott Collins of Evansville, Ind., Dr. Mark Stone of Hillsboro, Ore., and Courtney Woodard, of Tulsa, Okla.; and four great grandchildren.
Memory Chapel is in charge of services.


Robert Lavell Stringer
Robert Lavell Stringer, 86, of Bay Springs, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Jasper General Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs with burial in Zion Hill Cemetery in Bay Springs.
Mr. Stringer was a retired contractor and a member of Zion Hill church. He served in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellene Stringer and parents, Otis and Onie Ishee Stringer.
Survivors include his son, Douglas R. Goins of Huntsville, Ala.; daughter, Shirley and Gary Cockrell of Louin and Kay Crawford of Bay Springs; brother, Glenn Stringer of Bay Springs and Troy Stringer of Louin; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Bay Springs, which is in charge of the arrangements.
