Laurel police arrested five people Monday evening one hour after they shoplifted approximately $1,300 from a local business.
Det. Michael Reaves said Tuesday the children’s clothes were taken from City Trends around 4 p.m. Monday in a “snatch and grab”-type theft. Employees were able to get a license plate number, and Officer Josh Welch stopped the vehicle about one hour later, and recovered the clothes. Reaves said the four women and female juvenile will each be charged with felony shoplifting. He said they are all from Forrest County.
According to Reaves, stolen merchandise with a value of more than $500 is considered a felony. However, people working together in shoplifting is a felony, even if the value is under $500.
