Laurel Fire department and other rescue officials were dispatched mid-morning Tuesday to Highway 84 East where a white Ford Explorer went airborne after leaving the road and hitting a tree.
According to Lt. Robert Morris of Laurel Police Department, the victim was alert when taken by ambulance to the hospital.
“The driver of the vehicle was a white female,” said Morris. “She was driving eastbound on Highway 84 East when she ran off the road, hitting a tree and the vehicle then burst into flames.”
The female victim was the only passenger and the only car involved in the accident.
A Sheriff Deputy was the first to arrive on the scene.
“Sheriff Deputy Nick Neathersmith was the first on the scene,” said Morris. “When I got there he was trying to get the victim out of the car as well as other volunteers.”
There is no other information available identifying the victim or her condition but officials did verify she was from Jones County.
