West Jones to host ‘Meet the Mustangs’ Thursday
Meet the Mustangs Back to School Bash and Carnival, sponsored by the West Jones Center Stage and West Jones Touchdown Club, will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at the West Jones High School practice field and stadium.
Events include jumps, cake walk, ring toss, fishing, football toss and more. Concessions, which include steak sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, sno cones, baked good, popcorn, drinks and more, will also be sold at the carnival and at the West Jones concession stand.
Armbands will be sold at West Jones Elementary and North Jones Elementary Aug. 18 & 19. Armbands purchased in advance will be $10 and include five tickets. Armbands can also be purchased at the gate for $10. Tickets for all events are $1. Gate admission to the stadium will be $5; children with armbands enter for free.
Mustangs fans can meet the West Jones High School and Junior High football teams, cheerleaders, and coaches. Youth sports teams (Sharon, Shady Grove, Calhoun, and Soso) will also be recognized. Pee Wee and Youth teams will scrimmage.
There will also be a special performance by Center Stage.

Shady Grove Flag Football
Flag football registration will again be held at Shady Grove football field Aug 18th and 19th from 6-7 p.m. This is for 1st grade - 3rd grade, including 8yr olds. For more info, 601-498-0576.

JCJC to hold fall baseball league camp
First-year Jones County Junior College head baseball coach Christian Ostrander has announced the school will hold a fall league baseball camp for youngsters in grades 9-12 from Oct. 27-Nov. 13.
Cost is $125 per player with each team consisting of no more than 12 players to guarantee plenty of playing time. The number of players in the league will be limited to the first 96 who register.
Each team will play twice a week for three weeks. Prior to the start of the games, there will be a two-day camp where players will get first-hand instruction from the JCJC coaching staff as well as Bobcat players.

‘Meet the Bobcats’ set for Aug. 26
It’s almost football season, so it must be time for the annual “Meet the Bobcats” event on the campus of Jones County Junior College.
“Meet the Bobcats” will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. Head coach Eddie Pierce’s JCJC football team, players and coaches will be on hand, along with the Maroon Typhoon marching band and the Bobcat cheerleaders to fire up fans for the upcoming season.
Everyone is invited to come out and “Meet the Bobcats” as they get ready for their season opener, which takes place at home at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, against Itawamba Community College.

LHS football season tickets
The Administration Office is open on Monday through Thursdays until 5 p.m. to accommodate those who need to come by and reserve seats for the upcoming football season. For more info call 601-649-6391. After Aug. 29, (first game) any reserved seat not purchased will be sold on a first come first serve basis.

Bear Creek Four-Ball golf tourney
Bear Creek will host a four-ball golf tournament Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23-24. Entry fee is $100 per team or $50 per person. Tournament will be flighted depending on scores from first day. Shotgun start Saturday at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. tee-time on Sunday. There will be a longest drive and closest to the pin contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to first place winners in each flight. Bobcat 5K Run/Walk set for Sept. 6
The second annual Jones County Junior College Alumni Association Bobcat 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run will take place on Sept. 6 at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m., immediately followed by the Fun Run.
The event will take place rain or shine. The run will go through the JCJC campus and t-shirts will be given to all participants.
Trophies will be awarded and all children will receive ribbons in the Fun Run. Entry fees are $12 pre-registration for the 5K Run/Walk and $15 on the day of the race. Fun Run entry fee is $10 on the day of the race. Pre-registration deadline is Sept. 1.

Benefit for Nancy Morton
A benefit for Nancy Morton will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23. There will be a home run derby for all ages, from 5 to 16 years, at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per child. All kids are invited. A Coaches game will be held at 5 p.m. Baseball rules apply. Entry is $20 per coach. For more information, contact Shane Ladner at 601-319-8277 after 4 p.m.

Fight Night at L.T. Ellis Center
Laurel Jones County Boxing Club Fight Night is at the L. T. Ellis Center, 610 Munson Street, Laurel, Ms. on Aug. 23, 7 p.m. Weigh-in is 2 -5 p.m.. Admission is $10. Children 11 and under are $5. Contact Doremus Johnikin at 601-319-6175 for more information.

Rec basketball to start in Laurel
Laurel Park and Recreation League will start November 10. Children 7 - 8 year old boys and girls; 9 - 10 year old boys and girls, 11 and 12 boys and girls, and 13-15 boys and girls will form teams.
