Brown rallies Holston Realty to win over Coke

Demarion Brown sliced a single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning in leading Holston Realty past Coke 8-7 in Laurel/Jones County Dixie Boys baseball action on Monday night at Walters-Lions Field.

Brown’s single ended a four-run rally in the final inning of the game. Holston trailed 7-4 going into their final bat as they used four walks, a hit batter, and the one single.

The winners only managed four hits in the contest while Coke had ten hits. Jerome Slade, William Bender, Joel Welch, and Brown singled for the winners. Bender worked 5.2 innings on the mound for the winners while Brett Robinson worked the final out for Holston.

Paul Clark and Jarred Ingram each singled and doubled for Coke while Tyler Roney had two singles. Isaiah Clark tripled while Jared Grice, Jared Culpepper, and Bo Buckley all singled for Coke. Kolby Shephard and Roney pitched for Coke.

Tonight’s action will have KFC and B&W playing at 6 p.m. in the only game scheduled.

L/JC Dixie Majors begin 34th season tonight

The Laurel/Jones County Dixie Majors baseball league will open their 34th season with their opening games tonight.

In Pre-Majors (ages 15-16) the Cubs will play the A’s at 6 p.m., while the Red Sox and Yankees battle at 8:15 p.m.

In Majors (ages 17-19) the Orioles and Pirates meet at 6 p.m., while the Mets and Reds play at 8 p.m.

Pre-Majors will be played on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights with five teams in the league. The Quitman Royals are also in the league and will play a doubleheader each Tuesday night.

The Majors have four teams and will play on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
