Mother’s Day Basketball Tournament
Come Hoop With Us. Mother’s Day Tournament at Oak Park Elementary. Admission $3 on May 10. First game starts at 9 a.m. In the tournament are: Mount Olive Boys, Jackson Ballers, New Hope Church (men & women), The Untouchables (Wayne County), MOBC (Meridian), Go Getters (Hoy), Showtyme (Heborn), Prime Suspect (Bay Springs), Dream team (Hattiesburg), Team Cotton, and Team Jones (1&2)

Sim Cooley Golf Tournament
Bear Creek Golf Club has announced the first annual Sim Cooley Memorial/JCJC Scholarship Golf Tournament to be held Saturday, May 17 at Bear Creek.
The purpose of the tournament is to honor the late coach Sim Cooley and to establish a scholarship fund at Jones County Junior College. The scholarship fund will award a student from each county high school a chance to further their education at JCJC.
In addition to seeking teams to participate in the tournament, the organizers are asking for companies and organizations to support their efforts by donating items such as gift cards, merchandise, cash or food items. Any checks should be made payable to Bear Creek Golf Club.
Tournament is limited to the first 40 teams to register. Please send team entry fee or donation by May 3. If you prefer someone to pick up your donation, or should you require additional information, please contact Eddie Guthrie, club manager, at 601-425-5670.

Sertoma T-Ball announces registration
Sertoma T-Ball program, Laurel’s oldest and largest program of the sort, will begin its 2008 season with registration on May 10 at 9 a.m.
Registration will be held at the Magnolia Center at the Laurel Fairgrounds. Fee is $35 per child, and the league is open to boys and girls ages 3-7.
No prior coach pitch or farm league players are eligible to register.
All games will be played in the air conditioned comfort of the Magnolia Center, for convenience and to eliminate rainouts.
The program has been in operation for nearly thirty years and usually has around 400 children involved. Last year there were 343 tee ball players in the league.
The season will last from the first week in June to approximately the first week in July, depending on the number of players and teams.

U.S. Army-Northeast Jones Summer Shootouts
U.S. Army-Northeast Jones Girls and Boys Summer Basketball Shootouts. Girls Summer Shootout will be on Thursday, May 29 at Northeast Jones High School and the start time is 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Boys Summer Shootout will be on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at Northeast Jones HS and the start time is 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5. There will 12 different boys and girls teams including NE Jones from Jones and surrounding counties participating in both shootouts.

Coach Cotton’s Two Day Basketball Skills Camp
Two day skills camp will be highlighting shooting, dribbling and defensive skills at Northeast Jones High School from top coaches, instructors, and players from the area. Five on five competition, hot shot competition and free throw competition. Free t-shirts and a free lunch provided by Wards. Laurel Exchange Club/Kim’s “No Bull” Golf Event
The Ninth Annual Laurel Exchange Club/Kim’s “No Bull” Toyota Golf Invitational at Laurel Country Club on Friday, June 6. Shotgun start at 8 a.m., Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. There will be be a few former Southern Miss football players participating in the event. Three day basketball camp
City of Laurel L.T. Ellis Fundamentals of Basketball 3-Day Camp. June 4-6 from 8 a.m.-noon. Boys and girls ages 5-12 are invited. Each participant will learn the basic fundamentals of basketball, such as passing, dribbling, shooting, as well as offensive and defensive drills. Each child will receive a camp t-shirt and certificate.
Lunch will be provided. Registration will be June 4 from 8-8:30 a.m.
