Heidelberg Academy overcame an 8-0 WCCA lead and defeated the home team 13-10 here Thursday night to claim the South State Class A championship.
WCCA scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Heidelberg scored two runs in the second and the third innings and then scored four times in both the fifth and the sixth innings to pull out the win.
Heidelberg will start the overall Class A championship series next Tuesday night on the road but will host next Thursday night in Heidelberg.
Derek Beach homered and doubled while Andrew Jones belted two doubles. Blake Denham, Colby Smith, and Joseph Collins each singled and doubled for the winners while Steven Peebles had two doubles. Colby Reeves had two singles while Jamie Keenan and Blake Hitt had singles in the win.
Jones, the third Rebel pitcher, came on to pitch in the second inning and hurled into the sixth inning in gaining the mound win. Denham was credited with a save.
