A 16-year-old West Jones High School student was laid to rest Monday after being killed Christmas Day in an automobile accident.
Tiffany Anne Roberts of Hines Road, Laurel, died Thursday when the vehicle she was a passenger in was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Covington County.
Detective Eric Banks of the Collins Police Department said Roberts was the front passenger in a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old male from Covington County.
Banks said the S-10 pickup truck was traveling on Cold Springs Road in the City of Collins about 8:30 p.m. Christmas night when the driver attempted to cross Highway 49 and was hit by a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche truck traveling south on Highway 49.
“The impact of the crash was on the passenger door,” Banks said. “It appears that the vehicle she was in flipped two times after the impact.”
Banks said Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
“It was a sad Christmas Day incident,” Banks said.
According to police reports, Roberts was the only injury reported from the incident.
Also in the vehicle with Roberts and the male driver was “her best friend, who was in the back seat behind her,” Banks said.
However, officials said, the other people involved in the crash were fortunate.
“The others were all able to walk away,” the detective said. “There were three other people involved and none of them had any major injuries.”
Banks said all three of the other people involved in the crash were from Covington County.
Funeral services for Roberts were conducted Monday at Life Church in Laurel with burial in the Lone Star Cemetery in Covington County.
