Two people were injured in a collision involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Hwy. 184 East and Hwy. 84 East shortly after noon Sunday.
Travis Batte of Manning Road and an unidentified female rider were transported to South Central Regional Medical Center at about 12:30 p.m. suffering from injuries when the Honda Goldwing motorcycle they were riding collided with a Volkswagen Passat driven by 21-year old Timothy Yarnell of Hwy. 184 East.
Authorities at the scene said the female victim’s left leg sustained severe injuries. She and Batte were stabilized by emergency personnel at the scene and then lifted into ambulances for transport. Yarnell was unhurt in the accident. Both Batte and his rider still were wearing their helmets when they were taken from the scene.
Motorcycle parts were strewn all along the side of Hwy. 184 East where the collision occurred but the motorcycle was started and driven off the roadway after Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Laurel Police Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol units had closed down the roadway. The left front bumper and quarter panel on the Passat received the brunt of the collision as well.
Preliminary reports from the scene by authorities stated the vehicle driven by Yarnell apparently veered into the path of Batte’s motorcycle as Yarnell turned onto Hwy. 184 East. Batte and his rider were attempting to turn onto Hwy. 84 East at the time of the accident.
