The Laurel Police Department is investigating its latest robbery, which involved a home invasion.

Detective Kevin Flynn with the Laurel Police Department said law enforcement officials are investigating an incident that occurred at about 3 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of North Joe Wheeler Street.

Flynn said a homeowner was awaken early Thursday morning to knocks on his door.

“They knocked on the door. The homeowner went to the door, but didn’t open it,” Flynn said. “The suspect kicked the door in. The suspect was able to get the man’s wallet and then fled the scene.”

In a separate incident, a man in the 1900 block of Tulip Street reported being in his front yard shortly after midnight on Thursday when he was approached by a black male.

Flynn said the victim reported one, possibly two, suspects.

According to the victim’s report, the suspect(s) matched police department’s suspect descriptions in several robberies over the past month.

Flynn said that police are continuing to investigate Thursday’s incidents along with the previous cases. However, no arrests had been made at press time.

Police urge residents to use caution during the holiday season.

“Always check to see whose outside before opening your door,” Flynn said. “If you are uncomfortable with the situation, call the police department and we’ll send an officer to check the person(s) out.”
