ELLISVILLE – Nontraditional students seeking an education at Jones County Junior College will have a little help from the Jones County Supervisors.  They recently presented the JCJC Foundation with a $250,000 scholarship endowment. 

 “The Jones County Board of Supervisors has never before shown such great leadership,” said JCJC President, Dr. Jesse Smith. “Their policies and directives are going to have the most profound and long-term benefits to the citizens of Jones County and the JC family more so than ever before.  They recognize the fact that educational support is truly one, if not the only, policy that actually returns more to the economy than is invested.  As educators, we are lucky to have their leadership.”

The endowment will be used to fund scholarships for nontraditional students, which includes anyone who didn’t go straight to college after high school graduation.    Members of the Jones County board of supervisors are President Andy Dial, Johnny Burnett, Danny Roy Spradley, Barry Saul, and Jerome Wyatt.

Jones County Junior College has a current enrollment of 5,500 students.  The college's district includes eight counties: Clarke, Covington, Greene, Jasper, Jones, Perry, Smith, and Wayne.  Degrees and certificates are awarded in 27 career and technical programs and over 100 university parallel programs.  For more information about Jones, visit the college's website online at www.jcjc.edu.
