Old fashion Christmas at Landrums

By Jason Niblett, For the Leader-Call

An old-fashioned, relaxing Christmas celebration awaits anyone searching for a slower pace as they begin the holiday season.

A candlelit Christmas wonderland awaits both children and the young at heart when they walk through the gates at Landrum’s Homestead and Village. Located just a couple of miles south of Laurel on Highway 15, the attraction began as a simple family project. Now, there are acres of not only fun activities, but educational ones, too.

The 26th Annual Christmas at the Village will welcome visitors from across the region Saturday.

“Our family looks forward to Christmas at the Village every year,” said Deborah Upton. “It is a great way to start the wonderful Christmas season. There is something for all ages.”

Besides the usual activities of the antique farm equipment displays, laser shooting gallery, and mystery house, there will also be the features of a hay ride, school marm in the old schoolhouse, fresh biscuits for sampling, and entertainment.

Upton said the day is just as special for members of her family as it is for others who make the trip an annual family gathering.

“Our favorite part is meeting old friends and making new ones,” Upton said. “The Candlelight tour is the highlight of the day. The Homestead is beautiful — we have thousands of twinkling lights and candles.”

Others guests of the day include a Confederate Soldiers camp, Santa Sam, and wood carvers. There will also be food — from hamburgers to homemade sweets — to provide some energy for the day.

Christmas at the Village goes from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday. The candlelight tour begins at 5 p.m. Located at 1356 Hwy. 15 S., information on events throughout the year can be found at www.landrums.com

Admission for Christmas at the Village is $7 per person, with those three and under getting in free.
