Restaurant holds election party

The Reserve of Laurel served an appropriate meal on election watch night Tuesday — bull. Actually, it was barbecued beef brisket, but, according to Danny Rasberry, “We’re finding out that apparently both Democrats and Republicans enjoy beef brisket, because we are selling a lot of it.”
Rasberry, owner of the Reserve, served the brisket along with all other menu items to a crowd as election returns were shown on several large-screen TVs.
“Jones Countians are very independent thinkers when it comes to their politics, and have a passion for the political process,” he said Tuesday night while sending brisket and other meals out. “Since this is the longest presidential race in modern history, we wanted to give people a place to relax, have a great meal, great music and watch the returns.
“We do expect better economic times,” Rasberry said. “The market was up today, so we may have started a bull market.”
The musical part of the night was provided by blues artist Janiva Magness.
“She was starting a 20-day Southern tour through Alabama, Georgia and Florida,” Rasberry said. “I called and told her how good it would be for her to start the tour on election night in Laurel at the Reserve. Now, here she is, starting the tour in Laurel.”
