Lawnmower collides with pick-up truck
Man killed in wreck

From staff reports

An unidentified black male was pronounced dead at the scene Monday when his riding lawn mower collided with a 2003 GMC pick-up just off Highway 84, West near the Jones and Covington county line.

The driver of the pick-up, Jamie Burch of Hattiesburg said he was driving toward Highway 84 on Highway 532 when the driver of the mower pulled out in front of him near Sullivan Branch Bridge.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m.

“He just pulled right out in front of me,” explained Burch. “I was going about 40 to 45 miles per hour and I tried to swerve to miss him. I just couldn’t avoid it. I just couldn’t stop in time.”

Sgt. Perry Snyder, public information officer of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said the accident is still under investigation and no further details were available.
