Sandersville man killed in one-vehicle accident

A Jones County man was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on Sandersville-Pleasant Grove Road in Sandersville.
According to police reports, Anthony Ray Blackledge, 38, of Sandersville, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead on scene.
Deputy Scott Gable, who investigated the accident for the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, said, “Blackledge was traveling approximately two miles from Sandersville on Pleasant Grove Road when he lost control in a curve causing the vehicle to roll over. He was pronounced dead on scene by Jones County Coroner Nancy Barnett.”
Sandersville Volunteer Fire & Rescue also responded to the scene, with Sandersville Fire Chief John Bounds serving as incident commander.
Lance Chancellor, public information officer for the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department, furthered all inquiries to the Sheriff’s Department.
In a press release, Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge said, “It is always unfortunate to lose a life in a tragic accident such as this. Our prayers and condolences are with the Blackledge family.”
Blackledge had worked 17 years with Laurel Lumber Co. and served in the Mississippi National Guard. He was called to active duty during Desert Storm, and was a graduate of Northeast Jones High School.
Funeral services for Blackledge will be held at 2 p.m. today at Memory Chapel with Revs. David Parker and Joe Watson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Grove Cemetery.
