An annual event raising money for the American Cancer Society and breast cancer awareness takes place in Laurel today.

The sixth annual Think Pink Day is hosted at Anthony’s Florist. This year’s festivities include lunches, raffles, and a mini health fair.

“We’re shooting for 700 plates sold,” Anthony’s Florist owner Dena Boyette said. “This is to raise awareness for breast cancer. We’re trying to raise money for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.”

Money raised can go towards helping women with wigs, medical testing, and other cancer-related costs. But, it also goes towards educating the public about the dangers of breast cancer.

“It’s to educate the community, to help the patients with a wig or if they need assistance, the American Cancer Society can help,” Boyette said.

The health fair will offer some screenings such as blood pressure and glucose.

Plates will be available between 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. For $8 people can get a ribeye steak sandwich from The Smokehouse, along with chips, dessert, and bottled water or soft drink. Orders are suggested early this morning, and anyone who orders 10 or more plates can have their orders delivered.

For more information, or to order lunches, call 601-498-8850.

“It’s going to be exciting,” Boyette said. “It always is.”
