Jones County emergency personnel were busy over the weekend, responding to a serious vehicle accident and several fires.
Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna said a head-on collision Saturday at 10 a.m. on Freedom Road critically injured two people.
McKenna said one of the unidentified victims was trapped in her vehicle, and was extricated by firefighters using the Jaws of Life. “It was a 16-minute extrication, which was an exceptionally rapid time considering the amount of entrapment,” McKenna said.
Both victims were taken to South Central Regional Medical Center by EmServe Ambulance Service, where they were treated for multiple fractures. Powers and Glade volunteer fire departments assisted M&M at the accident scene.
A fire destroyed a mobile home on Crocker Road near Ovett Sunday at 8 p.m. The structure was fully involved in fire when Ovett volunteer firefighters arrived. Volunteer fire departments from Johnson and Moselle assisted. They were on the scene for approximately two hours.
A fire of unknown origin heavily damaged a mobile home at 39 Rufus Morgan Rd., off Sharon Road, Monday morning. Cindy Shoemake, with the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department, said flames and heavy smoke were coming out from underneath the trailer when firefighters arrived. Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department assisted Sharon in battling the fire. The trailer was occupied by Stacy Breedlove. No injuries were reported.
