WAYNESBORO — Two brothers have been released from the Wayne County jail after being arrested in connection with a shooting last week.

According to Wayne County Sheriff’s Department officials, Cardaris Odom and Shuntorey Odom have been arrested on felony charges in connection with a Sept. 27 shooting.

Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Kevin Stevens said Tuesday that Shuntorey Odom, 21, of 74 Jack Flemming Road, Shubuta, and his brother, Cardaris Odom, 23, were both taken into custody and booked into the county jail in relation to the shooting.

Stevens said the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department received a call shortly after 10 p.m. on Sept. 27 reporting that two black males were outside of a residence on Pugh Road with firearms arguing with an individual.

Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputies Charles Everett and Kyle Smith responded to the call.

“Before the deputies arrived, a second call was received reporting that the house had been shot into,” Stevens explained. “Once they arrived, Deputies Everett and Smith collected several items of evidence from the scene.”

According to officers, Wayne County Sheriff’s Investigators Mike Mozingo and Kevin Stevens later learned that the incident revolved around an argument involving a girlfriend and her child.

“We know that it involved a female, who was reportedly a girlfriend of one of the suspects,” Stevens said. “We know that one of the brothers fired a weapon into the house. ... We are still working to determine all the details involved.”

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Deputy Everett, along with Investigators Mozingo and Stevens also recovered an assault-style rifle from a residence located on Essie McGill Drive the following evening.

Based on the information and evidence recovered, Shuntorey Odom was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Cardaris Odom was charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling house.

Both suspects had their initial court appearance in Wayne County Justice Court.

During court proceedings, Wayne County Justice Court Judge Charles Britton Sr. set bonds for Shuntorey Odom at $10,000.00 and Cardaris Odom at $25,000.

Stevens said Investigator Mozingo is expected to present this case to the January 2010 Wayne County Grand Jury.

Anyone who may have information related to a criminal incident in Wayne County is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff's Department at (601) 735-3801 or Crime Stoppers at 735-LEAD (5323).
