LRMA hosting annual Heritage Arts Festival

By Lacey Walters, countyreporter@laurelleadercall.com

Good food, live music and creative exhibits are coming to the lawn of the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art on Oct. 7, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for the 16th annual Heritage Arts Festival.

Each year the museum, along with area businesses, sponsors the festival to promote the arts, and this year the museum has invited local artists and musicians to participate.

The theme for this year’s Heritage Arts Festival will celebrate Mississippi’s rich art heritage. Artists BeBe Baldwin, Ben Morgan and Amy Walters will give demonstrations of their crafts. Morgan will demonstrate wood turning, and Baldwin will exhibit her talent in watercolors. Charles Crossley from McComb, who has been involved in the festival in the past, will be back with his colorful multimedia collage works.

Free pizza and drinks will be available for everyone to enjoy and The Cowboy Blues Band will perform at 11:30 a.m. The band claims to be a little rock, a little country and a little blues.

“We constantly strive to provide fresh, new and energetic music from today’s rhythm, country and blues artists while remaining true to our classic roots with a variety of selections from music history’s greatest acts,” said band member Jessie Howell.

Tours of the museum will be available as well as other booths provided by museum employees.

“It’s a free event,” said LRMA Educational Director Mark Brown. “I think it’s a good alternative to how kids spend their time. It allows them to get acquainted with things going on in their community.”
