Electrical fire damages Soso home

From staff reports

An electrical fire at 335 Shady School Road in Soso caused nearly $5,000 worth of a damage Sunday.

Dan McKenna, Jones County volunteer fire coordinator, said Monday that the incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday, was due to a short in the circuit breaker box.

“We weren’t able to pull the meter until Dixie Electric got there,” he said. “They climbed a pole to cut the wires going into the house.”

McKenna said the flames extended into the attic, but were eventually extinguished before spreading throughout the house.

“They did a wonderful job of saving the structure and its contents,” he said.

McKenna noted that he as well as crews from the Soso, Calhoun and Pleasant Ridge Volunteer Fire Departments and Dixie Electric responded to the scene.
