Monthly Benefit Checks in the Mail Starting Today
The latest hurricane of the season, Gustav, has the potential to make landfall on the Mississippi coast. The Postal Service, in conjunction with the Social Security Administration and the Financial Management Service, has made arrangements to release monthly benefit checks early for delivery to the following ZIP Code ranges: 393-395. This includes the Jones County area.
Delivery of these checks will begin as early as Friday with final delivery scheduled for NLT close of business on Saturday. Check types include Railroad Retirement, Office of Personnel Management, Veteran’s Administration, Social Security Administration and Social Security Income.
While every effort has been and will be made to deliver every check early, customers are reminded that this special arrangement permits early delivery but does not guarantee it. Additionally, recipients should check with their local financial institution to determine the negotiability of the checks prior to normal scheduled delivery dates.
The intent of the early release of checks is to provide for safe and timely delivery to potentially storm affected areas. As always, the safety of our employees, the sanctity and security of the mail, and service to our customers remains our top priorities.
The Leader-Call also reminds readers that Monday is a federal holiday, so most governmental offices and banks will be closed. People are urged to prepare for the possibility of the hurricane now since we are entering a holiday weekend.
