From staff reports
A person most wanted by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department was arrested Tuesday after trying to escape through an attic.
Laurel firefighters and deputies with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday rescued a woman after she got stuck in an attic while attempting to avoid arrest.
Sheriff Alex Hodge said she was placed into custody after her rescue and charged with writing several checks on a closed account.
Hodge identified the woman as LaQuita Lindsey, 27, 1024 North First Ave., Laurel.
According to Hodge, Jones County Crimestoppers received a tip about Lindsey’s whereabouts. She was listed in Monday’s edition of the Laurel Leader-Call as a “Most Wanted” by the sheriff’s office. She was being held in the Jones County Adult Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Another “Jones County Most Wanted” was arrested Monday on Lindsey Avenue in Laurel. Hodge said Ralston Keys, 24, of the 700 block Summerland Road, a Taylorsville address but in Jones County, is charged with uttering forgery in connection with a stolen check he allegedly tried to cash at Community Bank on Highway 84 West. He was listed as a “Most Wanted” on August 2.
Authorities were alerted to Keys location through a Crimestoppers tip.
“I’m very pleased with the partnership between the Sheriff’s Department and Jones County Crimestoppers,” Hodge said. “The information received by Crimestoppers was very instrumental in the apprehension of Keys.”
Keys was being held in the adult detention center.
