A Laurel man is behind bars after being arrested by the Laurel Police Department’s Narcotics Division in connection with allegedly possessing drugs and firearms, including a stolen weapon.
Arthur Cody, 31, of Laurel was taken into custody by law enforcement officials Monday evening when narcotics agents executed a search warrant at his residence located at 1226 Spriggs Street, according to police reports.
LPD Narcotics Agent Vince Williams said Cody was arrested after the department received enough information about illegal drug activity to secure a search warrant.
“We were able to get a search warrant. So, about 6:15 p.m. Monday, we executed that search warrant at Cody’s residence,” Williams said. “Once we entered the house, we were able to secure Cody and search the residence.”
According to officials, a small amount of crack cocaine and a small quantity of marijuana, $450 in cash and three firearms — a 22.caliber rifle and two shotguns were seized.
Williams said the serial numbers on the weapons were processed and one of the weapons seized — a 12-gauge pump shotgun — was registered on NCIC as being stolen from a Jones County residence.
Williams said Cody has been charged with one count of the possession of cocaine in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of stolen property.
Cody has been booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
Officials said Cody is expected to be arraigned in Laurel Municipal Court before Laurel Municipal Court Judge Cecila Arnold later today.
