Domestic disturbance leads to murder

By Jason Niblett, newseditor@laurelleadercall.com

MIZE — A Smith County man is in jail while his wife recovers from multiple gunshot wounds and the family prepares to bury his 19-year-old step-son.

Daniel Davis, a recent graduate of Mize Attendance Center, was allegedly shot and killed by his step-father, Nicholas “Nick” Dardar early Friday morning. Smith County Sheriff Charlie Crumpton told the Leader-Call Friday that Dardar is being charged with murder. Dardar is also facing aggravated assault charges in connection with shooting his wife, Crumpton said.

“It’s just a family disturbance that got out of hand,” Crumpton said.

Crumpton said the incident happened early Friday morning near Mize.

Davis’ mother, Quinteena Dardar, is currently being treated at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

She underwent surgery Friday for severe bullet wounds to her upper right arm and her left shoulder, the sheriff said.
