Local attorneys are making an effort to help the Jones County Sheriff's Department in its fight against crime.

Attorneys with Sullivan and Sullivan Law Firm donated a breaching tool to the Jones County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Division. Attorneys Brad Thompson and Bob Sullivan presented the new tool to Jones County Sheriff Alex Hodge Wednesday afternoon.

Also as a part of the presentation was a demonstration of the new tool at Bo Burroughs’ Factory Certified Mobile Home facility on Highway 84 East.

Hodge said the Blackhawk Dynamic Entry, a breaching tool, will have an impact on his department’s fight against crimes and drugs.

Officials said the breaching tool will be used by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department’s Narcotics Division.

The sheriff said because house doors and mobile home doors open differently, the special tool for mobile homes will add to the department’s efficiency.

“Outward opening doors have been a breacher’s nightmare for years, but with minimal force, the Mobile Home Door Breacher will allow for safe, rapid and effective entry into outward opening mobile home doors during tactical operations,” the sheriff said. “This is a great tool to have.”

Officials said the unique leverage orientation of this tool literally pulls the locking mechanism free of the doorjamb while simultaneously opening the door.

Featuring an electrically non-conductive D-handle system and a laser-cut carbon steel breaching head, the Mobile Home Door Breacher was designed with Dynamic Entry’s legendary standards of excellence to withstand years of abuse.

Officials said this product is restricted to military, law enforcement and security personnel only.

Bob Sullivan, a local attorney, said the new tool “is invaluable to law enforcement.”

“This device allows law enforcement officials to enter mobile homes with a lot more ease,” Sullivan said. “We anticipate this tool helping officers to be able to get into mobile homes much easier.”

Thompson, a former state trooper who is now an attorney with Sullivan and Sullivan, worked with Hodge during his time with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“We have a great working relationship with the sheriff, and our firm has been a continued supporter of law enforcement,” Thompson said. “I saw a need and this is just one way of supporting the sheriff department and working for the betterment of our community.”

Hodge said he’s thankful for the support of the local law firm.
