Two suspects remain behind bars today after being arrested by Jones County Sheriff’s Department Investigators Tuesday for burglary.
Sheriff Alex Hodge said this arrest comes from reports received by Investigators concerning a burglary where a suspect had allegedly stolen a large quantity of jewelry and credit cards from a victim’s home on County Barn Road in Jones County.
Captain Don Scott, Jones County Sheriff’s Department Investigator commented, “We immediately received information that lead us to believe that Adam Pitts, 27 of County Barn Road, had allegedly burglarized a residence on County Barn Road and thereafter issued a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) to law enforcement agencies with a clear description of Pitt’s vehicle. However; Pitts was later discovered on Interstate 59 and Hwy. 590 on foot by law enforcement officials and taken into custody without incident.”
After further investigation, Pitt’s vehicle was spotted on I-59 driven by a suspect identified as Jennifer McKenzie, 43 of Heidelberg. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing several jewelry items and a wallet with credit cards that were reportedly missing in the burglary.
McKenzie was later taken into custody.
Hodge said according to McKenzie, she and Pitts were leaving the state heading to Texas when Pitts changed his mind crossing over the median in the highway causing the bumper on the vehicle to fall apart.
Realizing the bumper had fallen apart, Pitts exited the vehicle attempting to retrieve the bumper when McKenzie fled in the vehicle leaving him stranded on the highway.
Hodge noted, “I would like to thank all agencies who assisted in the capturing of the burglary suspects.”
Both suspects remain jailed in the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
