La. sex offender failed to register in Jones Co.
Apprehended after eluding law enforcement officials by wading into Tallahala Creek
From Jones Co. Sheriff’s Department
A Louisiana man wanted for failing to register as a sexual offender, was arrested Thursday in Laurel after officials were informed of his whereabouts.
Sheriff Alex Hodge identified the suspect as Aaron Lee, 34, formerly of Louisiana. Lee was the target of the Fugitive Task Force for a parole violation with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections.
“The Fugitive Task Force Officials contacted the Jones County Sheriff’s Department concerning Aaron Lee, who according to tips, was residing in the Laurel-Jones County area,” said Hodge. “An attempt by law enforcement officials to capture Lee Tuesday was unsuccessful after he eluded officers by wading in the Tallahala Creek.”
After further investigation, officials received information Thursday that Lee was at a residence on Marie Drive in Laurel and contact was made with Captain Steve Dearman of the Laurel Police Department to assist in the apprehension of Lee.
Lee was placed behind bars and booked in the Jones County Adult Detention Facility. He is waiting to be extradited to the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
Hodge thanked all agencies involved in the apprehension of Lee.
“The apprehension of Lee was a collaborative effort by the Fugitive Task Force, Jones County Sheriff’s Department Investigators, and the Laurel Police Department Investigative Team,” said Hodge.
