Driver dies in I-59 crash

By Eloria Newell James, community@laurelleadercall.com

Officials have identified a woman who died in a vehicle crash in Jasper County on Wednesday as a Texas resident.

On Thursday, Jasper County Coroner Randy Graham said 40-year-old Carri Broussard of Liberty Hill, Texas died in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 59 around mid-morning Wednesday.

Graham said Broussard was traveling on I-59 South near the 108 mile marker about 11 a.m. Wednesday when the incident occurred.

“It appears that she left the road and hit a group of trees in the median of the highway,” the coroner said. “She was driving a Dodge Ram pickup.”

Graham said Broussard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials also reported that Broussard had two passengers in her vehicle — her mother and another relative. According to reports, the other two victims were both transported from the scene by ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center. Their conditions were not available at presstime.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Troop H in Meridian is investigating the crash.
