Laurel schools name new principals
Day moves up to R.H. Watkins High School

From Laurel School Dist. Public Relations

On Tuesday, June 9, the Laurel School District Board of Trustees approved Superintendent Dr. Glenn McGee’s recommendation to fill three principal positions.

Current Jones Middle School Principal Carl Michael Day was approved for the position of principal at Laurel High School and current JMS Assistant Principal Jeannine Agee will serve as principal at the new Laurel Middle School beginning July 1. Current Oak Park Elementary School Assistant Principal Dr. Ken Culpepper will begin July 9 as the principal of Mason Elementary School.

“I am very excited about the opportunities afforded to each of these individuals who are already serving our district,” McGee said. “They all have the necessary skills to lead our schools toward excellence.”

Each of the three new principals has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of education, and is dedicated to the fulfillment of the Laurel School District’s mission “to build a community of life-long learners by providing diverse educational opportunities.”

Day has 12 years of experience in education, Agee has eight years of experience and Culpepper has 12 years of experience.

“The leadership, insight and dedication that Mr. Day, Ms. Agee and Dr. Culpepper have exhibited during their time with our district is only proof of great things to come,” McGee added. “Their love for the community, students, parents and faculty is evident in their daily pursuit of excellence as educators.”

The recommendation for Oak Park Elementary School principal will be made at the next school board meeting.

“Many applicants have shown interest in the leadership position at Oak Park, and the interview process had not been completed as of the June 9 regularly scheduled board meeting,” McGee said. “That decision will be announced by the end of June.”
