HEIDELBERG — A Jasper County man, who died in a recent traffic accident, was laid to rest Tuesday.

Rickey Brown, 47, of Heidelberg, died Thursday in a traffic accident on Susie B. Ruffin/U.S. Highway 11 in the city limits of Laurel, according to officials.

Capt. Steve Dearman with the Laurel Police Department said Brown was the victim in a one-vehicle crash.

Jones County Coroner Nancy Barnett said Brown was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday night.

Barnett said it has been determined that Brown died from “trauma from the accident.”

Dearman said Brown was the only person involved in the crash, which occurred on Highway 11 near 24th Street.

“Speed is believed to have been a factor,” the police captain said. “He ran off the road.”

Officials are continuing to investigate the incident.
