ELLISVILLE — A Laurel woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an ongoing embezzlement case in Ellisville.
Investigator Christy Carona with the Ellisville Police Department said Kathy Hilbun, 48, of 29 Victory Road, Laurel, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of felony embezzlement.
Carona said the Ellisville Police Department was contacted by officials with the local B.P. Convenience Store in Ellisville.
“We first received a report on May 25, 2009 regarding possible embezzlement, and we began an investigation into the matter,” the investigator said. “Hilbun was arrested at her job at the B.P. Convenience Store/gas station in Ellisville on Thursday morning.”
Officials said the amount of money involved in the incident still has not been determined. However, Carona did confirm that it was over $500.
“We are still gathering information on this matter and it’s an ongoing investigation,” Investigator Carona said Friday evening. “She was a clerk at the store. ... Right now, we believe it occurred over a period of time, but we are still investigating it to determine all the facts.”
Following her arrest, Hilbun was booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center, where she was being held.
Hilbun was scheduled to have her initial court appearance Friday evening in Ellisville Municipal Court, where her bond was expected to be set.
