The Transco pipeline has safely operated in Mississippi since it began operating in 1951. There 673 miles of transmission pipe in the state and three compressor stations, located in Tylertown, Seminary and Sandersville. The three stations have a total employment of 49.
Twenty-two of those employees are at the Sandersville location, where Mike Gibson serves as district manager. He said most of the employees live in Jones and Jasper counties.
“We are responsible for all of the maintenance and upkeep of this facility,” said Gibson. “I’ve worked for the company for 25 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. We’re like one big happy family.”
A native of the Powers community, Gibson started with the company as a ditch digger in 1984. He worked his way up the ranks and in 1988 he moved to one of the company’s stations in Alabama where he worked as a supervisor. He returned to Sandersville in April when he was named district manager.
“It’s great being back home,” he said. “My wife is from Sandersville and its been a great move for her, too.”
As a native of the area, Gibson said he is delighted to be employed with a company that has such deep roots in Laurel. “It’s a history that not many people know about,” he said. “It’s good to know the role the city of Laurel played in the history of this company.
“It’s something we all can be proud of.”
