The Laurel police department is investigating a shooting that occurred in broad daylight in the 1300 block of Ferrell Street Saturday afternoon.
Several officers and investigators responded to the area within the Laurel Housing Authority after central dispatch received numerous reports of shots fired.
“About 1:15 p.m. dispatch received numerous calls of shots fired in the area of Roberts and Ferrell Street,” Investigator Kevin Flynn said.
There were reportedly two vehicles involved in the shooting, but Flynn said officers were unsure if shots were fired from both of the cars. There were at least nine spent shells found at the scene.
A victim was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Detective Michael Reaves said the victim was in stable condition later Saturday afternoon.
Two suspects are in custody. Reaves said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released Monday.
