JCSD finds copper thieves
From staff reports
Jones County deputies arrested two Soso men Thursday evening in connection with the theft of approximately $7,200 worth of copper from local businesses.
Sheriff Alex Hodge identified the men as Greg Walters, 41, 78 Fred Ellzey Rd., and Fred Ellzey, 34, of the 1100 block of Centerville Road. Each is charged with grand larceny.
Hodge said Hilbun Electric in Soso reported the theft of a large quantity of copper wire on Saturday, May 3. He said investigators developed a list of suspects and arrested Walters and Ellzey Thursday around 5:30 p.m. Hodge said more arrests are expected.
Walters and Ellzey were in the Jones County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond hearings.
Deputies also arrested a 35-year-old man Friday just after midnight during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop.
After further investigation, deputies discovered approximately 21 pounds of marijuana and arrested and charged him with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Hodge said due to the sensitivity of the case, the suspect’s name is being withheld.
